Today are my reflections after reading I Kings 17: 34
“In his days did Hiel the Bethelite build Jericho: He laid the foundation thereof in Abiram his firstborn, and set up the gates thereof in his youngest son Segub, according to the word of the Lord which he spake by Joshua the son of Nun.”
- Joshua lived from 1450-1370 BC
- From what I gathered on Wikipedia—The event with Hiel occurred somewhere between 888-869 BC
While these dates are estimates at best in my mind, one can at least see that there is an approximate 600 year gap between the prophecy and the event. It is a good reminder to me that whatever God says will occur will occur. God’s words are outside of time as we know. Our time on earth is so finite and our capacity for understanding God and His principles regarding eternity are so minuscule. That, from what little I do understand I sense enough to know that too often we miss the point about our lives and God’s influence in it.
So the real question becomes
what does God say about the matter?
Ask God what is His take on all your issues. His answers may not always lead to “your understanding” but in the end I am confident that we will still find Him to be a loving Father unto whom we can go.
